If you run your hand across the printed document and the words and images smear or come off the paper it means the toner isn’t sticking to the paper. The toner actually melts into the paper. There are a couple of different causes for loose powdered toner to appear on your prints.
The fuser or fuser assembly uses heat and pressure to fuse the toner powder onto the page to create a print. If the toner is not being melted into the paper, then the fuser may need to be replaced.
It is also possible that the problem was caused by a faulty, leaky laser printer toner cartridge, so to fix that, you can carefully replace the toner cartridge with a new toner cartridge which should solve the problem because the cartridge might be defective and leaking or allowing more toner out than is needed.
TIP: if you have a color laser printer, you should only replace the color of cartridge that is spilling toner.
