Solid State Drives
Think about how much time you spend waiting for your computer. You wait for it to boot up. You wait for it to open programs, you wait for it to connect to the network.
It’s time to run your computer the way it was intended to run. Your computer has the capability of performing much faster, so why doesn’t it?
If your computer has a hard disk drive, that drive is causing the entire computer to run slow. Everything in your computer is constantly waiting for the slow hard drive.
Solid State Drives, also known as SSDs, change the entire experience! No more waiting. Nearly instantaneous responses, very fast boot up and a smooth overall experience. Here are the benefits of a Solid State Drive:
Super-Speed. Experience PC performance that’s up to 24x faster than a traditional HDD. SSDs complete random operations rapidly. You PC will feel better than new with faster boot up time, quick application launch, and a better overall computing experience.
Superior Multitasking. The increase in speed and response time allows you to run all your essential programs at the same time without sacrificing performance.
Return on Investment. The time you save not waiting on your computer will more than pay back the cost of a Solid State Drive.
Shock and Vibration Proof. Solid State Drives are shock-resistant, designed for continued reliable function in a laptop or notebook computer. If you bump or drop your laptop while it’s running, your hard disk drive will almost certainly fail. SSDs do not. There are no small moving parts that are prone to failure. SSDs are a must for laptops.
Energy Efficient. SSDs are over 90x more energy efficient than a typical hard drive, which means more battery life from your laptop.
Silent Operation. Tired of hearing the click clack and hum of your hard disk drive? SSDs run silently with no moving parts to eliminate distracting noise
Lasting Performance. Unlike hard disk Drives, SSDs retain like-new performance even after prolonged use.
Correct selection and installation is necessary to gain the full benefits of a Solid State Drive. Like anything else, there’s a right and a wrong way to upgrade to a Solid State Drive. Call us and let one of our experts upgrade your computer to super speed today!
Adding memory has been and still is a very popular computer upgrade for a very good reason. Multi-tasking!
The immediate benefit of upgrading your computer’s memory is better multi-tasking, especially if you use memory-hogging applications like web browsers, Outlook, or Photoshop. Increasing the amount of memory means that you can quickly switch back and forth between the different applications instead of waiting for the operating system to read and write to a page-file on your much slower hard drive.
Additional memory will also increase the life of your hard drive because there is less reading and writing to it.
Additional RAM does not make your PC faster, but it will “feel” faster because it allows you do more things at once.
How much memory should you have?
We believe more memory is always better. If I’m running multiple browser tabs, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and the computer has an Antivirus installed, I want the computer to have room to work.
As a rule of thumb, we do not recommend any less than 8 GB of memory in any modern operating system, like Windows 7 or newer.
Many of our clients are now insisting on 16 GB of memory for their desktop or laptop.
Correct selection and installation is necessary to gain the full benefits of additional memory. Like anything else, there’s a right and a wrong way to install upgrade memory. Call us and let one of our experts upgrade your computer today!
You don’t have to be a gamer to gain the benefits of a adding a new video card to your computer system.
If your computer does not have a separate video card, then it is using the CPU to process video. The CPU is also busy handling all the other functions of the computer. A video card off-loads the video tasks from the CPU and handles that intense operation itself. This allows your CPU to handle many more tasks.
If you’re not a gamer, the video card does not need to be powerful or cutting-edge.
If you are a gamer, then there is no better upgrade than adding a new, high-performance video card. Some systems will allow you to run two or more video cards.
The benefits are a faster system, smoother game play, more detailed graphics. It takes gaming and 3D rendering to a new level of virtual reality.
Correct selection and installation is necessary to gain the full benefits of a video card upgrade. Like anything else, there’s a right and a wrong way to perform this work. Call us and let one of our experts upgrade your computer today!
Wireless Network Adapter
Your laptop or desktop may have come with a wireless card that works great with 802.11 N type wireless routers but cannot work with the newer and much faster 802.11 AC type of wireless router. These are commonly referred to as N or AC.
In most cases we can upgrade your wireless adapter to the new AC super speed standard.
What’s the difference?
WiFi is always advertised using theoretical top speeds. N speed theoretically operates at a maximum net data rate from 54 Mbit/s to 600 Mbit/s.
AC speed theoretically operates at a maximum net data rate of 1300 Mbit/s total
There is much, much more to be considered and many more differences than just speed. Generally speaking, if you want a faster wireless connection, you will want Wireless AC and we strongly recommend hiring a Wi-Fi professional to perform an analysis of your home, explain the system, install and test it.
The setup is crucial to proper operation. Computer Pros Today has the correct selection, measurements and installation skills necessary to gain the full benefits of a wireless adapter upgrade. Like anything else, there’s a right and a wrong way to perform this work. Call us and let one of our experts upgrade your computer today!
A power Supply will not increase your computer’s performance, but it is necessary for a video card upgrade and in some circumstances, to stabilize the system.
Your computer is probably under-powered. Electrically speaking. We see it all the time. The manufacturer installs the lowest quality, least-powerful power supply unit necessary to get the job done.
Because manufacturers want more profit, the power supply quality can suffer making for a unreliable or unstable computer which is more prone to failure.
One tell-tale symptom is random discoloration on your screen when your video / graphics runs out of sufficient electrical current.
Most people don’t notice because while a computer is running, it idles near or below 100 Watts overall and usually there is no problem-until they want to add a hard drive for more storage space or upgrade to a stand-alone video card. Then there’s a problem.
A high-quality, robust power supply will increase the life of your computer, increase efficiency, stabilize the system and is necessary to add hard drives and/or a stand alone video card.
Correct selection and installation is necessary to gain the full benefits of a more robust power supply. Like anything else, there’s a right and a wrong way to upgrade. Call us and let one of our experts upgrade your computer today!
